Behind the Brushstrokes: A glimpse into the inspiration and development of the Melody Print
Come behind the scenes with our design team as they share insight into how the print was inspired by the collections ‘Immerse’ concept, the design process and the final silhouettes.
The collection, ‘Immerse’, is inspired by a world of endless possibilities, transcending the boundaries of imagination. The campaign imagery pays homage to this notion through the integration of iridescent, ocean-like materials and whimsical lighting that brings the prints, colours and silhouettes to life. The Melody Print features the outline of a mermaid, drawing back to the inspiration of the collection and the feeling of immersing oneself in a place of creativity and imagination.
In spliced, chocolate and cream hues, the Melody print features a unique mermaid stamp throughout, creating a striking pattern across each silhouette. Each Melody style is crafted from 100% eco-friendly and sustainable Tencel and Linen fabrications, making them transeasonal pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and time of year. With softly tailored accents, each silhouette within the print story seamlessly integrates into wardrobes, with the neutral hues providing versatility to pair with existing wardrobe pieces.
We sat down with Tay, one of our designers, to discuss the inspiration and design process for the Melody
What was the inspiration behind the Melody print, and how does it link to the collections ‘Immerse’ theme?
While gathering inspiration for the collection, we were drawn to the mermaid because to us she embodies dreams and magic with a nod to feminine power. She became our muse as we designed into the collection. It was important to us that we included the mermaid through print to showcase those leading ideas of ‘Immerse’.
What was the design process for this print? Was it hand drawn or digitally created?
Individual motifs are hand drawn then pieced together digitally in house. We play with colour and scale options while contemplating the silhouettes that will be right for the print. We consider each silhouette, mocking up options of how we can splice the print to create the best look.
The Melody print story features a maxi and midi dress, shirt, skirt and playsuit. What are the silhouettes you are most excited for?
I’m super excited about the shirt and mini skirt. I love buying into sets. I see so much value in being able to wear the pieces together for an easy wear, cool look, while also being able to style them separately with loved pieces from my existing wardrobe.
