Behind the Brushstrokes: A glimpse into the inspiration and development of the Oceana

With the resurgence of check prints this season, a classic has been revisited. Introducing the Oceana Print. Lending itself to the collection concept ‘Immerse’ whilst retaining timeless appeal. Come behind the scene with our print designer, Hannah, as she shares insight into how the Oceana print was incepted, its relevance to current trends and the connection to the collection concept.

Reimagined into five silhouettes, Oceana draws back to the notion of immersing oneself in a place of creativity and imagination. Each Oceana style is crafted from 100% eco-friendly and sustainable Tencel and Ramie fabrications, making them transeasonal pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and time of year. With softly tailored accents, each silhouette within the print story seamlessly integrates into wardrobes, with the on-trend hues providing versatility to pair with existing wardrobe pieces.

We sat down with Hannah, our Print Designer, to discuss the inspiration and design process for the Oceana Print.

What was the inspiration behind the Oceana print, and how does it link to the collections ‘Immerse’ theme?

Oceana is a watercolour check, in striking hues of turquoise, aqua and cobalt. At its core, the collection draws inspiration from the mythical allure of mermaids and sea sirens, serving as the guiding muse for myself and our design team. Oceana plays on the movement of the sea, with each layer creating depth and fluidity. As colours overlap and form new shades, the Oceana Print lends itself to Immerse -  an exploration of creativity.

What was the design process for this print? Was it hand drawn or digitally created?

A combination of painted stripes, checks and soft watercolour washes are hand painted and then pieced together digitally in house. Each painting is layered on a transparency and then made into a repeat, whilst maintaining the watercolour feel.

We play with colour and scale options while contemplating the silhouettes that will be right for the print. We consider each silhouette, mocking up options of how we can place the artwork. For this story we angled the print diagonally for styles cut on the bias.

The Oceana  print story features five silhouettes. What are you are most excited for?

I’m loving  the Oceana Set. It's crafted from 100% Ramie, a sustainable alternative to silk which gives the print a beautiful shine - only adding to the ocean like nature. Sets are so easy! I can mix and match these pieces, whether I'm going on a dinner date or heading to brunch with some girlfriends. These are forever pieces.
