Behind the Brushstrokes: A glimpse into the making of the Giselle Print
Come behind the scenes with Hannah Buckle, our print designer and creator of the Giselle print, as she shares insight into how the print was inspired by the collections concept, the design process and her favourite silhouettes.
Giselle is an intricate blue toned vine floral design, crafted on a fresh butter base. Handpainted in-house, the print is adorned in seven striking styles, including maxi and mini dresses, matching sets, and a combination of signature and new silhouettes.
What was the inspiration behind the Giselle print, and how does it link to the overall theme of the Resort ‘25 Collection?
Giselle takes the KIVARI floral to a new place whilst staying true to the brand’s essence. Inspired by the colours of the coast in an unexpected balance, the chintz style motifs feel modern and feminine. I wanted to capture the detail of this traditional floral style in a modern colour palette that felt right for the season and the KIVARI woman.
What was the design process for this print? Was it hand drawn or digitally created?
The Giselle was initially mocked up digitally, hand sketched and then hand painted with watercolour paints. The two main floral clusters were painted and then pieced together in Photoshop.
Favourite part of creating this print?
Seeing the colours work together and the elements flow as the print is laid out.
What was the decision-making process like for the colours within the print? Why did you decide on blue and yellow hues?
These colours felt slightly unexpected and modern, yet very true to the KIVARI aesthetic. Lemon yellow is a tone Kiki was passionate to get into the collection so I made this the ground colour and balanced it with the cool blues and greens in the florals to give the print harmony.
The Giselle Print story features seven styles, including both signature and new silhouettes. What silhouette are you most excited for?
I am in love with the shirt and skirt set as they can be styled so well separately too. Also loving in the mini dress – fun new style and suits the print perfectly!
