Salome & Tamara Mory, the iconic fashion sister duo, join us alongside their mum to discuss their personal styles, Mother's Day plans, and share some of their earliest fashion memories together.
HOW WOULD YOU EACH DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Salomé: I’d say my style fits well with the general idea of effortless Parisian chic, but with a twist. I like the idea of dressing up instinctively and naturally, but I also like to have fun with my image and change it slightly depending on my mood at the time. Versatility is something that all three of us love.
Tamara: My personal daily style is rather androgynous. I love oversized pants and t-shirts and jumping on my skateboard with those but I also love wearing feminine dresses and skirts as often as possible. What I like the most is to go from one to another. I need both.
Elisabeth: I would describe my personal style as very ‘casual’. I have this very active life in Paris and move a lot in the city by bicycle so I need to be comfortable. My uniform is jeans/cashmere or t-shirt and sneakers but as soon as the sun comes out I will slip into a dress which is actually my favourite outfit. I love dresses! With flats in the day, heels for the night. Love feeling like a girl .
IS YOUR STYLE INFLUENCED BY YOUR OWN MUM, ELISABETH?
Salomé: Watching her, I realised that fashion could be a great way of asserting yourself and expressing your personality.
Tamara: For a long time, it was more my mum’s thing. I would just put on some Vans, a shirt and denim. Until some point where I couldn’t resist trying my mum’s ultra trendy and feminine outfits. Lucky me, she was pretty generous with her closet and let me borrow some of her iconic pieces, that’s how I fell in love with the feeling you get from wearing cool clothes. My mum is my very first inspiration for style that’s for sure.
HAS THERE BEEN ANY VINTAGE PIECES THAT YOU GIRLS LOVE AND LIVE IN?
Salomé: My mother has always embraced the idea of circular fashion, selling almost everything as she went along to update her wardrobe with pieces that made her heart beat faster. But of course, a few timeless pieces have stuck around, such as two short Prada evening dresses I still have in my wardrobe. Wearing them, I feel empowered because they're beautiful, but also because they remind me of her, who wore such feminine and sexy pieces while raising two little girls.
Tamara: Yes. There is this Chanel chain belt that mum got in the 90’s and that I love wearing. And now I am trying to get a pair of the first collection of Karl Lagerfeld heeled Mary-janes from her. The negotiation is hard since Salomé also wants them!
WHAT'S ONE OF THE MEMORABLE LESSONS YOU'VE LEARNT FROM YOUR MUM?
Salomé: My mum shows me on a daily basis that you can overcome anything, she's the best example of resilience for me.
Tamara: The lesson I got just from looking at her, is that time will only make you shine brighter if you take care of yourself and have a healthy lifestyle.
WHAT WOULD YOUR MOST IDYLLIC MOTHER'S DAY ENTAIL AND WHY?
I think it would be spending the day together in a nice spa and then going to a good Japanese restaurant since it’s the whole family's favourite cuisine. However, spending the day together would be perfect no matter what we do.
TALK US THROUGH THE ITINERARY - AND WHAT WOULD YOU BE WEARING?
I would for sure be wearing sweats to the spa and then slip into a lovely ultra feminine crochet dress for dinner.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR EARLIEST FASHION MEMORIES WITH YOUR MOTHER?
Salomé: We both grew up with fashion, our mum was a fashion journalist and it wasn't unusual for us to follow her to her events, presentations and shows. We also did a little bit of modelling as kids. Mum was Editor In Chief for L’Officiel Enfant. It was really playful, we even shot with some of our friends.
Tamara: First fashion experience with mum was when she brought me to Bonpoint (this lovely Parisian brand for children) and everything my mum was choosing for me, I was asking the seller if they had it in yellow, my favourite colour. I remember my mum’s face, she was looking desperate since she liked to dress me up in neutral colours.
WHAT'S ONE SIMILARITY YOU CAN DRAW BETWEEN YOURSELF AND YOUR MUM?
Salomé: There’s way more than one, I wouldn’t even know where to start!
Tamara: We have the same humour and we love simple things so when she comes to visit me in Lisbon, we always have the best time going to little bistro's, eating grilled sardines and laughing about nothing.
AS A MOTHER OF THREE, HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FASHION CHANGED OVER THE YEAR?
Before I was a mother I was totally obsessed with fashion and clothes. I was a total shopaholic and needed shoes, bags etc. Then when Salomé was born it totally changed, her outfits were the most important. So my own style was put aside and became quite basic. But it didn’t last long! When my second child was old enough for kindergarten school I started working in a fashion magazine and my obsession for fashion totally came back and has never left. Romeo (my 15 year old boy) and his skater look even inspired my own oversized outfits for a moment!
