Salome and Tamara Mory’s Guide to Paris

The muses of our latest content shoot, Salome and Tamara Mory grew up in Paris and share with us their favourite things to do, hidden gems, advice for visiting and what they loved the most from our IMMERSE Collection.

You recently shot with us in Paris, a place you both know well - what are some of your favourite things to do in Paris when you visit?

Salome and Tamara: We grew up in Paris and were based there full-time until quite recently, when we decided to add Lisbon to the equation. Whenever we're back in Paris, it's to catch up with friends, have a meal in some of our favourite Japanese restaurants or try new ones and visit the latest exhibitions.

Any particular childhood memories you have of growing up in Paris?

Salome and Tamara: When we were little, we would often try to persuade our parents to take us to Disneyland Paris. We’ve been so many times that even today, we know the park like the back of our hand. We’ve grown up a little now, but we still love a good fairytale.

How has the time you have spent in Paris influenced your personal style?

Salome and Tamara: Paris is of course known for its fashion scene, and we really grew up in this world -  with a mother who worked as a fashion journalist and stylist. So we kind of had it in our blood and we've always attached great importance to this way of personal expression. And even though we love adding our little twist, both our styles resonate with the general idea of effortless Parisian chic. As trends have evolved, our styles have slightly changed, but always with the same desire to invest in timeless pieces that inspire us.

Are there any specific aspects of Parisian culture that you find inspiring and why?

Salome: For a city where appearances matter so much, I think it’s amazing how much Parisians can be real. Relationships, smiles, discussions - nothing can be forced. It’s a generality of course, but I think we’re used to showing our emotions (good or bad) and our interactions reflect how we feel in the moment. The downside would be that we’re known for being grumpy or even a little rude, but I find the transparency somehow charming.

Tamara: The variety of cultures, the fact that it reunites people from all around the world, this mixture really adds something magic and inspiring to this city.

Favourite places to eat and drink?

Salome: I have a thing for Asian and more specifically Japanese food. My favourite place in the city would probably be Toraya, an historical tea salon around rue Saint Honoré.

Tamara: Otto Mouffetard, perfect place for both.

And to shop?

Salome: I don’t shop so much, and when I do it’s mostly online. But I like to check the Galeries Lafayette des Champs Elysées’ selections, and love to pass by Redone for some perfect denim and Harpo for some Native American jewellery.

Tamara: To be honest, I mainly shop online and don’t go shopping that much anymore. But if I do, I'd go to the Marais as there are many cool shops there.

Any hidden gems or spots you can share?

Salome: It’s not so much a secret anymore so I can share.  I love to go for lunch at Maison Fleuret, it’s an old library turned into the cosiest café.

Tamara: I recently discovered a restaurant that is now one of my favourites. It's called Iné, only 6 tables in this restaurant serving delicious Japanese food. Really a gem.

Your itinerary if you only had three days in Paris?

Salome: Saint Germain and the Marais would be my main go-to areas. An ice cream at l’Île Saint Louis followed by a walk along the Seine, a tea time at Toraya, a visit to a museum like the Bourse du commerce, l’Orangerie or Pompidou, and a dinner at Au près to would be on the top of my list. And if you’re feeling festive, a late night to dance at Silencio.

Tamara: I would definitely grab a coffee near Palais Royal, sit for a bit there, go to Musee du Louvre, and have dinner in one of my favourite Japanese restaurants like Kunitoraya for exemple. Then I would have a day strolling in Jardin du luxembourg, go to one of the parisian markets to get some cheese and fruits, and have an aperol with friends at home before going out for drinks at Bar dès Pres. For my last day, visiting the galleries in Le Marais, doing some shopping and drinking coffee on a terrace watching people pass by.

One key piece of advice for someone visiting for the first time?

Salome: Don’t let the Parisian rush get to you, contemplate from the outside and take your time! La ville lumière, that can be admired at night too.

Tamara: Just go in the centre of the city, have a walk near La Seine, have a sit at a cafe terrace and look at the people walking around, it’s so inspiring.

As a true local, what would you say is the best arrondissement to stay in?

Salome: Every arrondissement has its own vibration. I feel most myself around the Haut-Marais. Its central, versatile and multicultural. Trendy yet young & relaxed.

Tamara: my favourite is le Marais, I love strolling in this area. There are many shops, coffees, restaurants and bars, anything to make a perfect Parisian day.

Suitcase staples for when you come to Paris?

Salome: Many pairs of shoes… some for strolling fast around the city & some for the glamour. I generally walk a lot.

Tamara: My favourite pair of jeans and cardigans, easy to wear for any occasion in Paris.

Any particular looks from the shoot you are excited for?

Salome: My favourite was the Oceana Slip Dress. Very chic, not too elevated - I really liked pairing it with my mesh ballet flats.

Tamara: I loved the entire collection but I think my biggest crush was for the denim boilersuits. I really fell in love with the cut.

Favourite moment of the KIVARI Paris shoot?

Salome: It’s always a pleasure to shoot with the Kivari team. I loved showing the team around and seeing their excitement to discover the places I’m now very used to. Kiki (the founder) is always so enthusiastic - it’s contagious.

Tamara: Shooting with you guys is always such a pleasure, I love being around Kiki and her great vibes. I think my favourite moment was when we shot near the stalls on the Quais de Seine. It was such a nice and inspiring moment, I really love these shots.
