Behind The Brushstrokes: The Making Of Our Juanita Print
Come behind the scenes with Hannah Buckle, our print designer and creator of the Juanita print, as she shares insight into how the print was inspired by the collection’s concept, the design process and her favourite silhouettes.
Juanita is a statement tile print combining botanical illustrations of florals and chillies on an ivory base. Hand painted in-house, the print features four styles, including a mini dress, a matching shirt, pant and short designed for multiple outfitting options.
What was the inspiration behind the Juanita print, and how does it link to the overall theme of the Resort ‘25 Collection?
The design process started in Mexico- looking to botanicals and other unique storytelling elements in bold hues.
The print’s main elements are created by hand and then placed in photoshop within a dark navy check. I used a blend of watercolour pencils and gauche to create each element.
Favourite part of creating this print?
I love the initial research and the moment you know the element ideas are strong and to jump in and paint! I created a few extra motifs until we landed on the right ones. The chilli’s really give the print a unique feel, the detailing on them was inspired by Mexican Papel picado flags.
What was the decision-making process like for the colours and composition within the print?
This print feels like a bit of a shift from where we have been with our summer storytelling artworks. Clean and cool yet remains colourful and on brand. The balance of colour felt right once I added in the midnight blue Iris and altered the check to have a navy tone, making for a slightly unexpected balance in the colour palette.
